[HANASHIR:4410] Re: Hora recordings?

Two thoughts:
1. Try "The Complete" series (i.e., "The Complete Bar Mitzvah"), etc. I'm
not sure if they use drum machine, but if they do, realize it's part and
parcel of the recording world. Often, even groups with "live" drummers
sound like they use drum machines in this genre.

2. Look into Jewish wedding orchestra albums. I know there are at least a
few Neshoma Orchestra albums out there, and Neginah also has song good
stuff--all arranged in c. 10 minute long "sets" and perfect for dancing.
(If you feel adventurous, you can call up a few Jewish bands and ask them
for their demo tapes, though you'll have to give them a really good excuse
to explain why you're nit interested in hiring them).

If you want a "live" sound, chances are you'll only be able to get it from a
live group. Or a genre with different recording techniques (such as the
Klezmatics), though their material is far less danceable, typically.

Good luck!
Judah.

Can anyone recommend some excellent dance recordings to use for the horas at
a Bar Mitzvah? I am trying to avoid cheap synthesized drum box type
accompaniments. In this case there is no budget for a DJ or band, and,
while I can offer some special songs for the Bar Mitzvah and his family on
my guitar, feel that a recording with percussion would better deliver the
energy required to get the dancing going.

Thanks,
Rachelle
