[HANASHIR:4287] Re: Sunday School Songs

Just wanted to give kudos to songwriters and tell about some teaching
success...

Today I taught Klepper's Abraham and Sarah songs, and they worked quite well
with 2nd graders. I added a lot of hand motions and sound effects to the
Abraham song, including the baaa-ing of the ram, and let the kids go a little
wild laughing on the Sarah song.

Also did Milder's "Wherever you go," with the 1st graders. The teachers
really enjoyed this one a lot...some said it's their favorite Jewish song!
There are a lot of words for this age group, but I think they caught on to
the idea, and I was able to kick off my shoes for the verse that says, "Some
Jews don't wear shoes...." which got a laugh.

And of course Friedman's Alef Bet song was a great hit...most of the 1st
graders "knew" it and wanted to be the leader...but as it turned out, they
only knew the first few letters, so it was a very worthwhile review. We
probably did it about 20 times.

I appreciate all the suggestions I received about the music professional
choosing songs versus following a curriculum. As it turned out, the songs I
was given worked well because I put my all into it, and added the movement
and sound effects as needed. It's all a great learning experience.
