[HANASHIR:4222] Re: choral music

TWo thoughts:

1. Try HaZAmir publications (though they may be sold through
Transcontinental by this point). They represent the publication wing of
the Boston Zamir CHorale, and have some fabulous arrangements.
(www.zamir.org, I think).

2. MY singing group, Magevet, put out a book of eight arrangements about
four years ago. I don't know how many are left, but you could try
contacting them at www.yale.edu/magevet

3. In general, try local a cappella groups (or not-local groups). While
they do a lot of "boppy" stuff, they also have some really good upbeat
things, as well as arrangements of popular tunes in choral style. (all
without accompaniment). Off the top of my head, I would strongly
recommend ( in addition to Magevet), U Penn's R'nanah (they just put out a
new album with a number of their original arrangements), U MIchigan's Kol
HAKAvod (same, I think), and Columbia/JTS's Pizmon. They may be a little
secretive about their arrangements, but I'd suggest trying them anyway.

4. Though not particularly helpful at this point, a number of ISraeli
publishers have put out fabulous works, which have been published through
ISraeli publishing houses. How to contact these houses I frankly have no
idea. I know that IMP (ISraeli Music Publications) has an American
counterpart (a well-known one in New YOrk), but I can't remember its name
off hand. TRy contacting Sergey Khanukaev (the JErusalem manager) for
details at impltd (at) galanet(dot)net

HOpe these ideas help.
Judah.
