In WA, house concerts are very popular among the folkies.  Because there are
no hall costs, the performer gets the entire
door, and friends of the hosts always help out with cookies
and tea.

Inevitably, there is time for a song swap before or after.
It's my favorite way to spend an evening.

I know  lots of folks who picked their houses with house concerts
in mind.    It's too bad some of my favorite folkies are alergic to
cats...

But this assumes folkie/singer-songwriter type.  Amplification
at a house concert would be abismal.
