[HANASHIR:4101] Re: Universal Jewish Music License

This is a fantastic idea! How to make it happen? People from various
parts of the Jewish music world, publishers, composers, distributors,
talking, hammering out a plan... work, to be sure, but an exciting
prospect, I think.

The issue of how to get people to let go of "old ways and habits" is
really one of marketing. People/agencies/organizations will have to be
presented with a product (or, more accurately, a service) the purpose of
which they can understand, and then support. It would be nice if the
community would get behind a "Merkaz Musica" because it's "the right
thing to do". Realistically, people will want to know what they are
going to get for their fee. But I believe the benefits can be presented
both in terms of convenience / access to the music, and equity. I
know, easier said than done, but consider me on board! I've been a
member of BMI for years, and not for the money (I should be so lucky!).
It's the fact that there is a way in which the use of my music and the
work I have put into composing and publishing it is acknowledged through
the funds paid into and distributed by BMI. I'd be interested in
knowing more about a planning meeting or further discussion on this, and
in helping in any way I can.
