We're Reform. The kids start Hebrew in 4th grade. I have them sing some
songs in Hebrew in Youth Choir, but it can be a bit of a struggle,
particularly for the younger members.

I'll have to listen to Sally's "Sittin' in my Sukkah" again; it's been a
while. I used her "Tap Your Feet" song for the 4th grade to sing at a
service last year. The rabbi thought it wasn't "Jewish enough," but I added
hand and foot motions and the kids really go into it. Everybody ended up
loving it!!!!!! Then, I realized that if I changed one word, "Jewish," to
another, "jungle," it would fit the theme of my summer (secular) music camp
and we sang it all summer long. Same choreography. So maybe the rabbi was
right that it wasn't especially Jewish. But it made the kids at the service
happy and got them involved and I think that's half the battle! -- Carol
