1) Re: "lost" verses.  They were probably there originally, but are lost to 
us.
2) Re: Sin instead of Samekh:  One rabbi told me that the Paytan (composer) 
couldn't come up with a sentence that started with a Samekh.  Lame reason, 
huh?
