[HANASHIR:3626] Re: shema



There is a midrash that says that on his death bed Jacob (Israel) worried 
that the traditions and belief in the one God would die with him. After 
repeatedly worrying outloud, the response to put his mind at ease was the 
Shema. "Shema yisrael [hear this Israel (Jacob, Dad)) Adonai Eloheinu, Adonai 
Echad ( the Lord is our God, the Lord is one- we believe the same as you, we 
will carry your beliefs with us). Upon hearing this Jacob responded with 
"Baruch shem k'vod.....", and died in peace.  I always explain to the 
children that it is midrash, but it is such a sweet story, they (and I) love
