[HANASHIR:3573] Re: This List

I think some great things have come out of the list today so I guess we're
doing our Tisha B'av avodah well. I hope "the list" will continue to be a
place where people feel they can go to get the "traditional answer" to any
question. I'd second the suggestion made last week by some of the L'cah Dodi
police that when we have such a question we phrase it by saying..."What does
tradition say about ...?" as opposed to " Am I allowed...?" I would also
like to suggest that we have an opportunity to learn more about the
traditional view on the things we do. For example I'll bet we all know you
don't find insturments in Orthodox synagogues on Shabbat yet there were
insturments in the Holy Temple on Shabbat. Any of us guitar players can tell
you there's no issue of work for me when I play so why does the tradition say
we can't play on Shabbat now? Would anybody want and would someone be willing
to serve as an "Ask the Rabbi" type person? That could be an "off the list"
service if the subject is not related to the list content or even if people
had personal questions. OK, and lastly an apology to Jerry Kaye, if you read
this list while you're at camp you're probably ready to kill me after my
writings today...but you made us ask the questions in the 70's and the 80's
and showed us we must learn the traditional side to each of these wonderful
questions.
