I loved Craig's comparison of his music to his children. Likewise, I feel
that my 3 children and my songs are gifts that God has given to the world
through me (with a little help from my husband for the kids). As such, once I
have "given birth to them" I relinquish "control" - and they develop lives
of their own. I get much nachas from seeing both the children and the music
bring light and pleasure into the world and am thrilled to watch them take
flight... however, at the same time, as a mother it is my natural instinct to
"protect my babies" and while I can't keep them from going in their own
directions and following their own hearts, I still feel pain when they are
hurt! So, yeah, take some liberties with my music,(I'm thrilled when people
perform my songs!) but don't lose its essense.
oh, and yes, all music is a gift from God, but most of us "conduits" like to
be acknowledged. ;)
