[HANASHIR:3527] Doing Songs as Written

hmmm...while, generally, Judy, I would agree with you, and I am usually a
stickler for doing a piece as written, I must tell you that to make this a
hard and fast rule, especially for musical styles that are based upon a
"folk" tradition" is problematic. The very nature of folk music is that it
is molded and shaped by the people who sing it once it has been given
original life by its composer/creator.

Jewish liturgical music has a long history of being molded and shaped by
those using it for worship. We should not be so quick to always insist upon
exact reproduction of the composer's original, in every case.

There is a passage in the Sefer Chasidim (I will try and look up the
reference later) in which it says that Gd hears all prayers, even those
imperfectly recited.

While I like the lyrics to this verse, I have a problem with people
"messing"
with the way a songwriter wrote his material. I think that we need to
respect
the person who brings a song into this world and allow his creation to be
sung
in the manner that he created it.
