[HANASHIR:3400] MP3

Here's a question for everybody and anybody on the list.

My husband's friend has been all excited about something called "MP3" which,
supposedly, allows you to download music for free from the internet. Today
there was a whole big article about it in the paper. One statement in this
article reads as follows: "Last week, the Recording Industry Associaton of
America,....... agreed to allow electronics makers to begin production of
portable music players while technology to protect against piracy is still
being developed." So, here's my question. IF you can download music for free
from the internet, isn't that almost by definition piracy?? Are there that
many artists out there so altruistic that they want to GIVE their music away?
Does anyone know how this works and if it's legal? Also, IF it IS legal, does
anyone know if any of the Jewish artists offer their music this way?

Thanks.

Judy
