I thought you guys might be interested in the end of the story of my sulky
singers.

Today was our end of term concert and graduation. It was a reasonably
informal affair. Every class had prepared something. Before we started I
approached THE class and asked them if they wanted to join in, no they
said. Bright Spark said 'We aren't professional enough'. This response
worked on two levels for me. One just excuse level, yet two, very telling
of that age group in regards to music, they want to produce sounds which
they hear, which mostly they can't. So most people will feel that anything
they do produce is not 'professional enough'. When folk music was your
guide, similar sounds were easy to produce with a guitar a voice. Anyway I
digress.

So they all agreed that they didn't want to sing, they were in the second
half. Fine I said, in actual fact barely caring, just slightly disappointed
but not letting on. The first half went well and at the beginning of the
second half I get a message 'Cita Chet want to sing'. The ring-leaders, no
longer having anyone to assert themselves against, had decided that their
class should sing. So at the right time they got called up. Made a lot of
fuss on stage which I ignored. We sang a reasonably sweet, shortened
version of the song. I quite liked the sound they made.

I quietly celebrated victory. I'd like to get a chance to do some
song-writing next year with them, but heard today that they can't afford to
have me in for the first term of next year. Yep, the song-leader gets axed
first. Oh well, doors close, doors open.
