Hey everyone! Thanks for all of the information about Ki Va Moed. My
guess was that it was something to do with an older form of Hebrew. You
know, before I had the chance to check e-mail today, I was talking to the
Israeli scout I spoke to yesterday about it. I felt bad doubting her
Hebrew knowledge, but I knew there had to be an explanation. She told me
that in Hebrew, at least in modern Hebrew, there is a rule that if a word
starts with a "V" sound and follows a word ending in a yud, it is a vuv
and not a vet, therefore, the vet had to be a bet, but I am sure she will
understand this explanation.
You know, on another note (no pun intended), I wanted to share a funny
little tip with you all. This regards working with kids who are reluctant
to sing, or who don't like to sing so you can actually hear them...
I was leading a group of kids today ranging from about 10-13 years old. I
reviewed a couple of songs with them, and only a select few were singing.
I stopped and asked "okay, how can I get you all to sing a little louder?"
The first few answers I got included the typical "give us candy!" and "pay
us!" but then someone said "make our counselors make fools of themselves
in front of us!" I began thinking, and luckily, I work with counselors
who are nice enough (and goofy enough) to cooperate. We instantly created
a "goofy-counselor-dance-o-meter." The counselors stood up in front of
all of the campers, and I told them that if they sang, the counselors
would dance. They louder and better they sang, the more goofy and crazy
the dancing would get. I don't know if this will work on a long-term
basis, but it sure worked well today. The kids sang well and got a good
laugh, while the counselors had a blast being silly!
So that's my story! I think I might try a singdown next, just for a
change of pace. Team competition might be good with this group...
Happy singing!
Angela :)
