[HANASHIR:2986] Re: High Holiday music

I have to add my 2 cents (plain) here. (Gee, I hope some of you out there
are old enough to understand that reference....if not, write me and I'll
explain....) IMHO, as the cantor is the shaliach tzibor of the
congregation, the prayers and songs that are sung represent the the
community as we come together to ask forgiveness. If the cantor/lay leader
is unable to do their job properly, it takes away from this responsibility.
Also, I have been known to have coughing fits on the bima when too dry -
prayers/music has stopped flat when this happens, sputtered and started
again by a knowledgable congregant. This is much more distracting than
very discreetly sipping water. And I mean VERY discreetly.

I'm off to England tommorrow, (I'm singing at a Masorti synagogue outside
London), then immediately onto UAHC's Greene Family Camp while you guys
have a ball together at HS. I do hope to join you some day, and wish you a
beautifully musical summer!
