[HANASHIR:2891] Re: songleading without a guitar

At Ramah, I know that Shabbat song sessions are conducted entirely without
instruments. From what I understand, at this particular camp, there has
only been shira on shabbat evening, where everyone sings the same songs
every week and they usually shout and scream and see who can be the
loudest. Hmmm... My aim is to use the guitar for shira during the week as
sort of a pacing mechanism, let them hear themselves *sing* in harmony, in
time with music, etc...and hopefully that feeling of singing with
accompaniment will carry over to shabbat, where they will sing with gusto,
yes, but be able to hear each other and feel the pacing and 'fill-in' that
a guitar provides. I also love to do chanting and rounds without a guitar,
I try not to hide behind it, as is so easy to do.

So, that's the story on accompaniment...thank you for all your continued
response.
