Linda,
My wife and I (2 voices, 1 guitar) have been doing this in a smallish
congregation (270 families) for some 25 years now. For the past 5 years,
our "fee" has been $100 for bar/bat mitzvah services (Friday eve or Saturday
morning), confirmations, weddings, etc. For a Friday eve service--when in
conjuction with a Shabbat morning bar/bat mitzvah--we've normally added
$25-$50 depending on the amount of music the family wants.
Next year, our "fee" for a bar/bat mitzvah, wedding, etc. will increase to
$125 with a preceding Friday nite at $50-75.
Starting about 20 years ago (coincidently, right after I'd finished paying
for my Martin!), we asked that the families contribute our "fee(s)"
directly to our choice of Temple funds--in appreciation for our being asked
to participate in their simchot. Sort of multiplies the mitzvot.
l'Shalom,
Norm Greenberg
