[HANASHIR:2884] Re: from UAHC camps to Ramah

Dear Joanna, I think you are in for a great experience. As someone who was
also bred as a songleader in the Reform movement I realize how powerful the
gift of song is. As you are aware there will be differences in traditions and
customs in Ramah, Jewish customs as well as established camp traditions.Does
Ramah allow playing of musical insturments on Shabbat? It makes me wonder
about something else. Are we too dependent on our insturments in our trade.
I always like to throw an accapella song here and there for contrast but I
wonder how dependent are we on our guitars and pianos etc... I'd be curious
to know how many of us would be comfortable being asked to take on a friday
night service in temple accapella or to lead songs in the dining hall at camp
without a guitar? In my camp days I could not imagine Shabbat without a
guitar. Other experiences since have changed my mind. As always I appreciate
the thoughts of all of the subscribers to this wonderful list.
