[HANASHIR:2857] Re: Substitute teachers

Meris:

- bingo games / music bingo... kids can even be the callers

- 20 questions games; you've done units on instruments of the orchestra,
other musical instruments. Have them do 20 questions on instruments ....
ask what they're made of, how they're played...

- singdowns: for grades 3 or 4 and up... leave a list of words or topic
categories. It will easily fill a half hour period, doing one or two
"broad" categories: animals, colors, Israel, weather...

- videos: I do a lot of general as well as Jewish music, so most of these
fit in with that part of my curriculum. Some ideas: "Beethoven Lives
Upstairs" ; "Bach's Fight For Freedom"; "Peter and the Wolf"; these are
for kids grades 4 and up.  little kids:  "Tubby the Tuba" (long, though) ;
"Fantasia" -- at least the beginning parts... Some of these can even be
found in libraries or video rental stores.

- drawing to music / music appreciation activity: using "Pictures at an
Exhibition", by Mussorgsky; or "Carnival of the Animals" (Saint-Saens).
great for all ages. I like to do a drawing activity with Pictures at an
exhibition, because the composer was inspired to write the piece based on
the exhibition of a friends' artwork. Art inspired by music which was
inspired by art...

I'll send you more details on some of these.
