[HANASHIR:2838] Re: guitar shopping

When you're searching for the "love of your life" in guitars, don't forget to
visit pawn shops. You might find a real treasure. My husband, quite by
chance, happened into a local pawn shop and found a "vintage" (late 1970s, I
think) Larrivee, which was priced at about half its actual value. The guitar
came with a very beat-up hard shell case, and it reeked of cigarette smoke
(if only guitars could talk...the stories they'd tell...), but was otherwise
in excellent condition -- and has a mellower, richer sound than I've heard
from any Martin.

In fact, my husband called the Jean-Claude Larrivee company in British
Columbia to verify the guitar's origin and vintage -- and they offered to buy
it from him, sight unseen, for more than he paid for it! (Of course, he
declined.)

The point is, sometimes the best new guitar isn't a new guitar at all -- like
many of us musicians, the good ones tend to get better with age!
