[HANASHIR:2832] Re: guitar shopping

Yet another guitar "love story".....

Like Judy C-G, I bought my first guitar, "Buddy" a Yamaha, as a teen, and
now give it to my kids and schlep it to the Day School where I teach
because I have no fear of hurting it at this point. My
co-songleaders/current bandmates at Greene Family Camp, Scott Leader and
Billy Tiep (lately of Kutz), teased me endlessly a couple of years ago,
because I was 40, still playing a guitar I bought as a teen, and deserved
better. The truth is, I had been searching and being a nudnik at different
stores and dealers for years. I knew it was practically a life-long
investment and not to be taken lightly. I also knew, the right one would
be the right one, and like bashert, I would know it.

I climbed the Alpine Tower for the first time at camp one night at
midnight, flew down, and knew the time had come.

Scott and Billy both play Martins - the newer ones - pretty, but IMHO,
overrated (I love older Martins!) They kept saying (imagine
21-year-old-boy inflections here: "DUDE, really, get a Martin. It's not
just a name, Dude, it's THE name!")

We haunted and teased music dealers and shops from Dallas to San Antonio to
Houston that summer. I found that perfect guitar in a small independent
shop in Waco, Texas. I went back many times to make sure and he was
absolutely MADE for me. I made Scott and Billy close their eyes, and put
him in their arms and they played. "Good choice, dude! It's DEFINATELY a
Martin."

It was a Taylor 410. I love Mastercard. I love my Taylor. It's the same
model as Joel Siegel's and Abby Gostein's. I named him "SB" after Scott &
Billy. My kids know if there is a fire in the house, they are instructed
to find and rescue SB first. Then crawl to the nearest exit.....

Sigh......
Robbi Sherwin
(making lots of music in Austin, TX, but up way too late because Scott
Leader's 6 and 12-string Martins are being babysat at my house for a
month......Okay, they're still MARTINS! "SB" can take 'em, tho' No
contest.)
