[HANASHIR:2825] Re: guitar shopping

Susan,
I just went through the experience of buying a new guitar. It is truly
difficult to make a decision. While I was shopping one salesman said to me
that I would know when I had the right guitar in my hands because finding the
right guitar was like falling in love. He was right. I did know when the
right one came along.

If you can find a store that stocks many different brands the process becomes
much easier. I finally found my way to Mandolin Bros. in Staten Island, N.Y.
where anyone who plays the guitar can have a ball. They have room upon room
of gorgeous higher end guitars and invite you to play any one or all of them.
If you can play many guitars at one sitting it is much easier to weed out
the ones that don't satisfy your needs.

I looked around in all the local music stores for several months and had the
same experience you described. Then I found Mandolin Bros. It took me about
four visits to their store and about ten to twelve hours playing time to
settle on a Collings OM2H guitar. I am really happy with the sound, the
feel of the neck and the workmanship on the guitar. I am also happy with the
service I have received directly from Collings.

As far as bargaining on the guitar price goes I don't know if that is done.
At the store where I bought mine there were two to three different prices
offered depending on the method of payment.

I hope that you can find a store with a great variety of fine guitars in your
neck of the woods and that the process becomes fun and not frustrating.
