[HANASHIR:2592] Re: Songleader shortage

I guess this is a good time to introduce myself. My name is Joel Simon,
and I
am the music teacher at Temple Emanuel in Denver Colorado and will be the
assistant songleader at Shwayder Camp this summer, and I plan to attend Hava
Nashira for the first time this summer. I am 18 years old and will graduate in
2 months. There have been quite a few messages about the lack of young
songleaders, so I thought I'd tell you how I got interested. I know Steve
Brodsky from Mah Tovu is on the list too, and when I saw him songleading at
the temple when I was growing up, I knew that was what I wanted to do, so I
got a guitar on my seventh birthday and started learning everything I can. I
now teach music at the religious school, help the cantor lead the junior
choir, and help songlead in NFTY's Missouri Valley. I know in Denver we had a
period where there were more songleaders than we knew what to do with, but now
as they are "growing up" it's getting very hard. But, I'm here to stay, and
I'm hoping to go on to cantorial school. So, for you "over forty's" don't give
up, but for David, I'm here too. I'm glad to be on the list and i look forward
to learning from all of you.

Joel
