i have seen posted to this list on occasion questions pertaining to printed
music and the copyrights thereof. a while ago, i found a wonderful brochure
published by the CMPA (Church Music Publishers Association) called "The
Church Musician and The Copyright Law." What's nice about the brochure is
that it addresses all the same issues we have with our sacred music. I only
recently found that it also appears on the web in electronic form:
http://agocolumbus.org/copyright.html (the server seemed slow, but you
should be able to get the file.)
it is a basic rundown of the issues of copyrights and music. It answers the
following questions: what does "copyright mean? what are the rights of
copyright owners? who owns the legal right to make copies? do other
countries have copyright laws? what if i'm faced with a special situation?
what about photocopies? etc...
i just thought this would be interesting to share.
