Jess, sorry about your friend.  What comes to mind is the song Eli Eli with
the beautiful words by Chana Senesh: "I pray that these things never end..."
since it refers to the things in this world that continue on after our
death...and gives hope to the living.  I'm sure you could play and sing this
song beautifully.
