how do people here come to trust a song enough to introduce

Judah, I agree that continuation of this discussion would be very
instructive. I relate in some way to every argument I have heard, for and
against the use of this arrangement. Since this lovely melody is not my
absolutely favourite setting, but rather a wise choice for a new choir, I
am leaning toward choosing another arrangement for it, even if it has to be
done in unison. I can't seem to get over my gut resistance to it, since I
learned the song as Dona Nobis Pacem and have conducted a secular choral
group singing it for a non-religious vigil which took place in a church.
I do wish I could find more liturgical music written in canon form since
this is so good for children's voices, untrained adult choirs and
congregational harmony.
