There are two Tara books which are full of the "older" songs from
the Chalutim era and the Kibbutz movement (pre-1948). They are:
Israel in Song and Great Songs of Israel
Both books have been kept in print because they have such basic
material in them. It will always be "relevant" as part of our
shared Jewish experience of the 20th century.
There may be some similar material in Manginot under "Israel",
and in the first edition of Songs We Sing from United Synagogue.
If these "older" type of songs are too easy for your 5th graders
or they are bored with them from too much exposure (we should
be so lucky), perhaps some of the Naomi Shemer repertoire can
be applied to this early era.
In any case, "easy" songs can be made fresh with hand motions or
staged actions, and with teaching the full translations as good
Hebrew and history lessons.
