I've been "listening" to this conversation and I don't have the time to
soliloquize it as many have eloquently done, but I will say I agree with
Adrian on this issue.  We cannot forget the traditions which make us feel
comfortable in our worship settings.  I cannot imagine a High Holiday without
singing "Avinu, Malkeinu".  I can't fathom the Hebrew gender-neutralized
translation of "Our non-gender specific parent, our genderless Ruler".
