[HANASHIR:1740] Re: Politically Incorrect

It is very hard to distinguish the "forest through the trees" on this one. As
a composer, yes, I want to "get the songs out there". Minhag ha-makom not
withstanding, Adrian brings up many salient points.

I believe that is is not wrong to make the changes, based on THIS discussion,
because of the need to make everyone comfortable in their setting(s). The
ORIGINAL discussion was based on something entirely different songsession
based idea.

I'll be doing a gig next week at a conservative shul. They've asked me not to
use
Ad-nai, but saying G-d is OK. I'm glad I've learned to ask ahead of time! ( I
can only hope that I can remember NOT to sing the wrong words to my own
songs!!!!)

The thing I've learned most from these situations over the years is to be able
to look ahead, remember the differences between songsessions, and teaching in
schools, and services and congregational needs.

When we songlead, often we are "hired" help to facilitate ruach and group
cohesiveness. Now, we have to factor in "sensitivity". I hope, in the end,
that this won't be overrun by our "sensibility".

Steve
