Another two kopecks (my how full the tzedakah box is getting),
We feel that it is important to change "human-gender" specifics--those which
refer to us. Example "Prayer of the heart" in Eili Eili rather than "Prayer of
man." But we don't change "Lord."
A "lord" used in the base sense, Lord Palmerston of Great Britain, for
example, is wed to a "lady." He owns land and serfs. However, for us, "Lord"
is another name for God, has been an accepted translation for "Adonai" and is
not gender-specific. Otherwise, why use "God" when maybe we should be
substituting "Goddess" or "Supreme Genderless Being?"
By changing the meaning of the word, we need not go falling all over ourselves
to make sure we do not offend--least of all ourselves.
