Yes lets hear it for those us who are ear dominant. The thing is I can deal
with theory, I just never particularly related it to my own creativity. I
know that I can sit down (if so motivated) and work out these things. But I
have become so ear dominant that I only ever teach a song that either was
taught to me or I learnt from a recording (or one I wrote myself).
Its an interesting discussion, I just know that my ear does these things so
quickly that I have low tolerance for other methods. However I think its
certainly good techniques for getting across uncopyrighted material, I
guess I just get more satisfaction from going and learning a new song from
one of the many recording artists I have sitting on their CDs in my room.
Also the more you do with your ear the better it gets and the more
confident you get at relying on it. I was also trained for this stage of my
music life by DF and thats a heavy bias on personal spirit and things
coming from your inside and trusting your soul. So tri-tones sub-dominant
ninths and half moon eighths fade into insignificance from such an angle,
although I know that (most of) the above have their place.
Its nice to know however (thanks Jeff) that I am kinesthetic dominant, I'll
tell my doctor.
