There are a huge number of variations on line wrap. Not all email software
can be adjusted in this regard. There are so many differing standards as
well. As soon as I would suggest a practical upper limit for line length,
someone would tell me their software didn't handle even that one correctly.
Keep the line length relatively short and you may have reasonable success
ith the line wrap issue-BUT-then the text format and justifcation issues
will creep in. We have so many flavors of email these days, and people can
set their mail apps to different display fonts, etc. Some of us proportional
fonts and some fixed fonts. All these various setting play havoc with
textual alignment in email.
I think the word standard has become anathema in the electronic
communication industry.

Regarding Adrian's point, I'd be curious to know how many variations
there are on characters per line before wrapping. It is definitely a
nuisance to have to re-align things. Is there any way this can be
standardized? Perhaps most mail tools have the ability to change the
line wrap, either temporarily or permanently.
