Late night ramblings

Dear All,

Its Monday 29th June 1.00am. In just seven hours I'm leaving to go to the
airport to start our American tour.

For those of you who have shown enthusiasm and support, thank you. Its been
hugely helpful. Its been a long haul but it has happened and at last our
show is coming together (if not now, when?).

Its late and I'm leaving my family and friends for a month so I am feeling
a bit philosophical. So thank you for your patience.

I started working with music back in September 1995 following an
inspirational experience at Hava Nashira. I came back knowing very
powerfully that I was meant to work in some way with Jewish music but not
having the slightest clue how this would materialise. So I tried and sought
guidance, identified my teachers and followed my instinct. I guess
something worked.

The power of owned music, the power of opening your soul by opening your
mouth and singing continually strikes me in beautiful and awe-inspiring
ways.

This morning I co-ordinated a concert I have been preparing with children
at sunday school. Each class had prepared a song. It turned out well. The
children sang with spirit, joy, humour and beautiful (apart from 2 really
tough 5 year old boys who I have no control over). Afterwards, one of the
mums came up to me and thanked me for the concert. She said that the past
year had been extremely hard for her having to deal with a number of
cancers and deaths in her family. She hadn't really wanted to come but came
for her daughters sake. She said that the concert had really lifted her
spirits. Her response was very open and natural and I knew that she
powerfully meant what she said.

It at times like this that the reasons for what I'm doing become crystal
clear. Music is a very dynamic medium that can relieve our inertia in
unpredictable and liberating ways.
It soothes, calms and invigorates. On the above description you perhaps
would expect to find it in a chemist or doctors surgery, but you can't.

But this is what we all do. So congratulations to us all. And long may we roll.

lots of love and song notes

Jess
