Re: I've got a new drum

Friends,

I have been using my doumbek in our renewal congregation for at least five
years now to accompany our services. As the cantorial soloist at Kehilla
Community Synagogue in Berkeley, I pretty much get to decide on accompaniment.
I am not much of a guitar player and find that the drum (and tambourine) helps
at Bar/Bat Mitzvah services when there are alot of non-regulars.

We do a lot of "chanting" and niggunim. Chants include those by Shefa Gold,
Susan Rothbaum, Linda and Fran, Jhos Singer, Shoshana Cooper and others.
Since we started the chanting and drumming the kahal has been most happy. It
has become a regular part of our nusach.

Good luck with the drumming and stay with the beat!
Rosalind (Berkeley, CA)
