How about "Eve of Destruction" by Barry McGuire (I think).
There was a great Vietnam protest song by Country Joe and the Fish, "The I
Feel Like I'm Fixin' to Die Rag." It was a powerful song made even more
powerful by it's upbeat, peppy sound.
>From the musical Hair: "Hair" and "Easy to be Hard" (also recorded by The
Cowsills and Three Dog Night, respectively, I think).
I remember the songs, but I have to admit, I'm fuzzy on artists. I know
that's a mortal sin.
Sometime in the mid to late 80's there was a song "My Name is Luka" by
Suzanne Vega about an abused woman.
Has someone mentioned "Hell is for Children" by Joan Jett (I think)?
Pretty often you can find the lyrics and other information on the Web. Just
go to any search engine and put in the name of the song, or the artist.
Good luck.
