Re: Klepper's Survey

There can be little question that children and their attitudes are
changing...
I think that the most important parts of effectively working with
children are sincerity and respect.

Too often I hear teachers using sarcasm-as-wit with kids...or teachers
speaking to children as if they are all 6 years old...this is especially
of concern in a religious school as small as ours is here in Fargo...we
often have all of our children together as a group. Even 5 year olds
(maybe most especially 5 year olds) want to be spoken to as if they have
a brain and are important.

My experience as a once-kid myself and as a parent of 6 children of
varying ages, temperaments, abilities and learning styles is that
everyone wants to be treated with respect and dignity (and have some fun
along the way)...as Andrea points out, when you scratch the oft-jaded
surface there's a wonderful kid lurking inside. Kids pick up on
phoniness and shtick real fast...just be straight and real with them

and then sing Luperts chicken song
