Re: HANASHIR digest 155

Hi there everyone! It's been a long time since I've posted anything, but
I wanted to respond to Adrian's anecdote about Jeff's question. I agree
with what you write Adrian, and I want to add that a crucial piece, it
seems to me, in connecting with kids (or anyone, for that matter) is:
whatever you do and however you do it it has to be an extension of who
YOU are. If one's end is to amuse, entertain etc., that's all well and
good but if there is a discrepancy between what you are doing, i.e.
shtick, and who people have come to know you as, it will come through
and distract. It's that consistency of who you are as a music educator
and what you are sharing with the students that shines through and
resonates over the long term...
Also as an educator I am constantly being reminded of the wisdom of the
saying, "we teach our students , not the material". Lehit, Laura Harari
