Hi. My name is Sara Greene. I am 17 years old and a songleader in NFTY SE
(aka SEFTY). I am writing to ask your help in a project that I am working on
along with my 9 co songleaders. (We have a talented and spirited region!!)
We are working on recording a CD to raise money for our mitzvah corps
project- Camp Jenny. Now I bet you're wondering what Camp Jenny
is....WELL... Camp Jenny is a camp where SEFTYites raise money all year to
send underprivilidged children from downtown Atlanta to Camp Coleman for
memorial day weekend. The children play, go swimming, do art projects, eat 3
meals and sleep in a quiet, peaceful place- something that they don't
experience at home. Their counselors are NFTYites who are volunteers. The
NFTYites apply to be counselors and are chosen by the Social Action Vice
President and the regional advisor. These children come from a place called
the Study Hall in Atlanta. These children are elementary school age. They
are able to go to camp based on attendance to school, behavior and grades.
They all work very hard to be able to go to Camp Jenny. it was named after
a past SEFTYite named Jenny Rosenthal. She died 10 years ago in a car
accident. She was hit by a drunk driver. This camp means a lot to everyone
in NFTY SE.
So, we as songleaders, are trying to make a CD to sell. We are going to give
all of the money we make to Camp Jenny to try to send more kids. It costs
$150 to send one child to camp Jenny.
The reason I am writing this to you is to ask your help in making this CD. I
am not asking you to give any money or anything, just advice. We face the
problem of copyright. I have heard that since we are making this CD for a
non profit purpose, we do not need to pay for copyrights. Is this true? We
would like to record some songs in the chordster that are popular in NFTY.
Those are written by Debbie Friedman, Jeff Klepper and Julie silver, to name
a few. How do we go about getting permission to use these songs? I know
that we are able to use the NFTY song competition winner because it was
written by (my best friend) Lara Aronoff who is in SEFTY!!! (yay!)
If you have any suggestions at all for how we might make this CD or live
in the southeast (Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama or Florida) and are
willing to help, please email me(dot)(dot)(dot)sbguitar2 (at) aol(dot)com
also, if you would like more information about Camp Jenny, please email me
Thanks for your time
Sincerely,
Sara Greene
