I agree with Neil.  When I originally answered, I did so for the whole
network deliberately because I felt the entire issue needed to be discussed.
 However, I also sent some private messages to individuals in answer to
individual questions.

The more networks that I join, the more I see postings which mean nothing to
me or the network as a whole, but which are private messages intended solely
for the one writer.  I find personal greetings of this kind really annoying
and it is time consuming sorting through them.  Perhaps Neil's suggestion is
the best, and most akin to a personal phone call or conversation between two
individuals about a particular topic.

I think that airing this entire issue was good and would like to see more of
this type of exchange in the future - about topics which affect all of us.
