Re: What is Hava Nashira camp?

The short answer: Hava Nashira is a 5-day camp experience in early June at
Olin-Sang-Ruby Union Institute in Oconomowoc, Wisc., for Jewish
songleaders/music educators (people from all movements of Judaism are
welcome). Debbie Friedman and Cantor Jeff Klepper typically are among the
faculty, joined by other notable Jewish musicians from year to year (Julie
Silver, Rabbi Joe Black and renowned choral arranger Shimon Cohen have been
among the faculty in past years.) For logistical reasons, attendance is
limited to 50 songleaders/"campers" each year.

The longer answer: Hava Nashira is more than just a 5-day opportunity to
improve your songleading techniques and learn a wealth of new (and old) music
from the modern-day masters. It is a chance to join together with others who
share a love of Jewish music; to sing, pray and share the essence of one's
soul with others who truly understand the power of (Jewish) music in creating
joy and repairing the world. (Without a doubt, God's presence is palpable at
Hava Nashira -- ask anyone who's been there.) It is truly a transforming
experience, and the friendships one cultivates at Hava Nashira (assisted, of
course, by the wonders of e-mail) can transcend time and distance.
