[HANASHIR:16906] Re: HELP! NEED A JEWISH MUSICAL

Yonah - funny you should ask this question when I just finished listening to
two musicals that I thought were quite intriguing. Both are "hilarious
parodies of Broadway musicals you know and love," one called "Goys & Dolls"
(Guys &
Dolls) and the other "SayOyVey" (Cabaret). The lyrics are witty and quick
paced, the recording has professional singers/actors, and musicians. There is
a
package described on their website (www.sillymusic.com) as follows:
For $350 we will send you a karoake version of either CD that your own cast
of characters can sing along to. We will send you a script of the lyrics, as
well as a narration script that ties the songs together into about an hour-long
show. We'll even include 10 CDs for you to sell at the perfomance. All you
need is six or seven performers, a sound system and someone to start and stop
the
CD at the right time. You can sell tickets, CDs (you will need more than 10
for the night of the show) and what else? Use your imagination!! Food, T-shirts
and on and on. We will help you with ideas as to how to make your performance
a success, both artistically and financially.
How can you lose?
There are value lessons in both parodies and they sure sound like fun. Hope
this is helpful!

The original play we have for our yearly intergeneral production isn't
working and I'm in a bind. I need suggestions of Jewish Musicals that would
work
for a larger cast with varying ages... either original or well known. Along
with
a good, solid story and good music, it should somehow teach some kind of
value or lesson. But more importantly, should be entertaining and fun for the
cast
to do.

I've thought of the obvious -- Fiddler/Joseph/Yentl. Does anyone have an
original musical they've used they'd like to share? Our budget is relatively
limited.

Thanks!
