[HANASHIR:16543] RE: Keyboard advice

Dear Donna,

I had a 61-key Yamaha PSR 510 which I used for the last 10 years for
both gigs and composing. Just recently I splurged and got a 76-key
Yamaha DGX 202. I have been very happy with both.

There are a lot of bells and whistles on my present model. E.g., a
list of 100 pre-set songs which is useless to me. (My own children,
however, are teaching themselves piano using these songs. You should
hear my almost 6-year old pick out "Fur Elise" one-handed.) It was
about $300 during Sam Ash's big holiday sale.

I've had Finale for many years, and a few months ago upgraded to
their 2003a versions. I think they're up to 2004 by now. In any
case, while it's a challenging program to learn, once you know it,
the real-time composing feature is oh, so wonderful! And the quality
of the notation can't be beat. From what I understand, many
publishers are using Finale as a standard. There's a video tutorial
in the later versions which is very useful in learning. Wish there
had been one of those in my original version!

Just in case you were wondering, I get no money from either Coda
Music nor Yamaha for these endorsements. These are just my personal
experiences.

Good luck,
