[HANASHIR:16497] Re: Sixth Graders Sing?

I guess I'm lucky in that my 5th and 6th graders are sometimes my best
classes....if you don't mind teaching something "out of season," they request
"Jonah" (Kol B'Seder) all year long - can always be tied into Torah and the
lesson
up to date as well....right now we're working on Adon Olam (again, Kol B'Seder)
and they are challenged by getting the Hebrew correct the faster they
go....Friday Night Live (Craig T.) is also requested alot....I've been teaching
on
Sundays for quite a few years and the kids that take guitar lessons are always
asking me for my chords to the music - they also love "Salaam..."

Since my music experience as a child was so boring (Classical Reform -60's)
and before all this great music began to emerge within our movement, my major
goal of continuing to be a songleader (I play guitar) has been to have the kids
in my school fill the halls w/Jewish music and have fun w/it. They request
songs all the time and look forward to it.

I have also introduced "Blowin' in the Wind" this year as I am introducing
some Jewish composers into the curriculum - the kids love this song, and
request
it all the time, and I do it before or after Doug Cotler's Bayom Hahu, and
compare the messages....

Hope this helps!
