I do have a number of sweet songs for Tu Bishvat - for preschool and up - in
both English and Hebrew. (email me privately)
There are wonderful Israeli songs for the young'uns - i am sure Rahel has
them all up her sleeve as does Achi ben Shalom.
re Songleaders:
I also wanted to add that in this neck of the woods - the east bay area of
California, there is a wonderful song leaders network sponsored by the San
Francisco BJE - and currently led by Achi. ( I had the privilege of hosting
this
past Monday's event.) The range of musicianship runs from listener but loves
music - to the most professional performers. All are welcomed - all are
participants in the song swapping/sharing etc.
The atmosphere is always warm, preceded by a potluck, and shmoozing, and it's
a great way to find new talent/learn new material/make new friends- and above
all feel connected to the community through song. We all sang our hearts
out!!! (Tenors, drones and whatever.) Passing round a basket of percussion
instruments, everyone contributed at their own level, in their own way. The
purpose
was to share!!!!
The BJE is wonderful in being the umbrella for this group. Perhaps other
cities should follow this model. (Josh in Chicago, are you still out there?)
For early childhhood musicians/educators,(check out the Childrens Music
Network) CMN is another group that does similar things - songswaps,
roundrobins,
yearly gatherings etc. (Though not a Jewish organization, many people on this
list are active members.)
For communities who don't have access to big names, or tons of material, it's
a good way to hook in sharing info/repertoire/tips/skills etc. Even with just
a few other music people.
Barb Stambler initiated house concerts as a great way to bring diverse folk
together - visiting artists in the area or local colleagues. A great way to
grow is to keep on singing. playing with peers - and with mentors etc.
