My original reply in response to the thread about the Dinosaur Song
spoke to the issue of developmentally-appropriate practice. With the
exception of one or two replies to my post, there has been nothing said
about the topic. As an early childhood educator, I admit to having a
vested interest in the subject. And I wouldn't for a moment suggest that
everyone come to it with the same degree of enthusiasm and interest that
I have. However, once again, if you are teaching music to young
children, I would propose that you read and educate yourself on how to
best serve this population.
If you have an interest in pursuing this topic, I would recommend that
you click on the following link. It is a position statement put forth by
the National Association for the Education of Young Children. It is
long, and I admit contains more information than many of you might be
interested in. I include it for those interested in reading it. If it is
more than you care to read, I would suggest that you scroll through it
so that you may have an idea of the width and breadth of research and
attention that has been paid to what is best for young children:
