Yes, Shirona, sadly, pc now rules our world.

Also, I think that just like advertisers know that "sex sells," you might say
in this case, "silly sells." I was very surprised that my most popular
songs turned out to be not what I thought were the meaningful pieces like "Do
it
for the Children," or "Temples, Synagogues, Shuls," but the Cookie Song, the
Latke Song, etc.

I understand your viewpoint...do we REALLY need a dinosaur to light the
Shabbat candles? You and I and perhaps others grew up in a more traditional
environment and learned the beauty of traditions from watching them happen.
But
today's youngsters have grown up with big purple dinosaurs on tv and other
characters twisting and turning and entertaining their heads off, and that may
be
what they need to get turned on to Judaism, or anything! Furthermore, some of
their Jewish teachers may have come late in the game to Jewish learning and
customs and may not have the same frame of reference that you and I have.

When my cd, Breaking the Lock, first came out, I was criticized for many
things. As an example, I used "Hashem" in one song and "Adonai" in other
songs...I hadn't thought about that before making the album...but hearing this
criticism made me more sensitive to the issue of the appropriate name of God to
use in songs. In the same way, I think it's important for all of us to be open
to constructive criticism, to hearing opinions which differ from ours, to
learning as much as we can, and then making up our mind where we stand. If we
never hear another opinion, we don't know that it exists. That's at least part
of what this list is for.
