[HANASHIR:16223] RE: Menorah Hora

Is this in a book, or loose music? I couldn't find any source on the web. Any
recordings out there? Thanks.

Michael

I use The Menorah Hora a lot -- with young preschoolers (first verse only)
just for fun, and with older kidsr and youth choirs as a "presentation" song
with some choreography I added. Music and lyrics are by Gilbert Brodsky.
These are how the lyrics appear on the sheet music c 1986. (Please, folks,
don't request photocopies from me. Because I try to respect copyright law,
I only send people copies of music I've written.)

First you jump out and then you jump in.
You make like a dreidel and spin, spin, spin!
Stand like the shamash so tall and thin,
  Doin' the Menorah Hora.
Ya la la la la la la la la.
  Doin' the Menorah Hora.

Put the first candle out on the right.
Add one more candle for ev'ry night.
Shine all you candles, oh shine so bright.
  Doin' the Menorah Hora.
Ya la la la la la la la la la.
  Doin' the Menorah Hora.

Up with the hammer of Maccabees.
Down with Antiochus to his knees.
Pass me the latkes now if you please.
  Doin' the Menorah Hora.
Ya la la la la la la la la la.
  Doin' the Menorah Hora.

Sing out the blessings so loud and sure.
Add on a chorus of Maoz Tsur.
You'll feel so good, you'll be glad that you're
  Doin' the Menorah Hora.
Ya la la la la la la la la.
  Doin' the Menorah Hora.
Ya la la la la la la la la.
  Doin' the Menorah Hora.

Has anyone heard of the song, "Menorah Hora?" My director taught it to
me and wants to find out if there's a third verse. I'd also love to find out
  who
wrote it and make sure I'm singing it correctly.

*Put the first candle out on the right
Add one more candle for every night
Shine all you candles, oh shine so bright,
'Cause we're doing the Menorah Hora.

  Ya la la la....
'Cause we're doing the menorah Hora.

Up with hammer of the Maccabees
Down with Antiochus to his knees
Pass out the latkes if you please
'Cause we're doing the Menorah Hora.

Also, there's a beautiful song I learned called, "The First Candle of
  Chanukah,"
which I'd like to know who wrote. It starts: "The first candle of Chanukah
is in honor of One Eternal G-d."

  Thanks for all your help!
