That is not correct. Unless the music was written as a "work made for
hire," i.e., the music was written specifically for someone who paid you to
write it, the author is the owner of the copyright until the owner transfers
that ownership. I did a quick check, and could find no cases where payment
of a "finder's fee" was deemed to effect a transfer of copyright ownership.
Terri -- you should make it clear in writing that when you sell a choir the
music to one of your pieces, you are merely giving them the right to make
copies for internal use, but that you are retaining copyright ownership.
