Someone mentioned making recordings for Religious School, etc.  Doing this 
legally is relatively easy and inexpensive if the work has been released 
commercially.  You send a form and a small  fee (I believe $0.08 per copy per 
song) to the copyright owner.

  Remember that this is a subject that is covered by both civil and Jewish
  law. In the end, it's about doing the right thing, even if it is a little
  inconvenient.

  A few bits and pieces to consider:

  US Copyright law makes special provisions for the performance of liturgical
  works in liturgical settings. But it is a tight exception.

  Songsheets with properly attributed lyrics are one thing. Photocopies of
  printed music are another.

  Sure, plenty of songs are in the public domain, but one should never assume.

  In the end, it's about doing the right thing, both civilly and Jewishly,
  even if it might be just a little inconvenient.
