Doesn't changing those lyrics take away the whole power of the song? To me,
the whole beauty of that piece of the Exodus story is that the women had the
optimism and foresight to pack timbrels in their "carry-ons" so that they
could praise God with song and dance as soon as they were safely across the
sea...
gender equality means equal in value, not that men and women are the
same... not every song and every prayer has to be genderless! I'm surprised
that
Debbie would even make that change and am glad to hear that it was
short-lived. And as for men singing the song - why not? women certainly
sing enough
songs about the accomplishments and glorious acts of men!
